Our client is seeking an experienced, hands-on Actuary to join a small, highly visible actuarial team within a growing insurance organization owned by a large U.S. parent company. This is a high-impact role for an actuary who enjoys broad responsibility, autonomy, and real ownership of work. This hire will play a critical role in leading key actuarial workstreams, and serving as a trusted point of contact internally and externally (including reinsurers). The ideal candidate is someone who can step in immediately, operate independently, and-over time-serve as a potential successor to the current chief actuary.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and execute experience studies across multiple life and annuity lines
• Support pricing, reserving support, and actuarial reporting
• Work closely with reinsurers, including responding to actuarial questions and explaining assumptions and results clearly
• Develop, maintain, and enhance actuarial models and analyses using modern tools and programming languages
• Perform actuarial analyses related to reinsurance structures and profitability
• Partner with stakeholders across the business in a small-team, high-responsibility setting
• Contribute to process improvements and act as a true "jack of all trades" within the actuarial function
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior or rotational team members as needed
Required Qualifications
• ASA or FSA designation required (career ASA is acceptable)
• 6+ years of actuarial experience, specifically working within the life and annuity insurance industry
• Strong experience with experience studies
• Working knowledge of reinsurance concepts and structures
• Experience using GGY AXIS (strongly preferred) or at least one of the following: Python, R, SQL
• Comfortable working independently in a small actuarial team
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain actuarial work to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Experience interacting directly with reinsurers and external actuarial counterparts
